Magnus Group is a family business. Whilst being headed by the second generation of the Magnus family, being a family business means more than that. The family values over the years have resulted in it not only being a family business for the Magnus family, but for the various family groupings who work there including husband and wife, father and son, nephew and uncle, and sisters.
Olly Magnus, the son of the founder, took over as CEO in 2019. Since then he has proactively recruited, surrounding himself with a team of the best in the business. He is determined to build on his father’s legacy, the strengths of the company and its 50-year history.
Emma Lightfoot (nee Magnus), Olly’s sister, joined to head up internal HR in 2020. With the company growing, in an environment of ever-changing Law and guidance, it was a great time to strengthen the HR function and bring Emma into the company. Emma is determined to ensure Magnus Group has the reputation of being a fair employer, with the focus on equality and welfare of the team. With a growing team, and expanding services, Emma is keen to improve internal communication, strengthen the already present teamwork and family ethos. She wants to ensure there is a robust structure to provide the best environment for the people, as well as the business.
Olly Magnus’s “people first” approach is refreshing. His LinkedIn posts can cause quite a stir with his honesty and heart on his sleeve approach. He shares his aspirations and worries, and frequently acknowledges the impact of having the right people in the right role, and the desire to maintain a loyal, dedicated team.
Olly believes in hard work but that every day should be fun. Each recruit is treated as a “team signing” with a photo taken holding a branded polo shirt next to the Magnus Group sign. Olly and Emma want everyone in the team to enjoy coming to work and have the same dedication to the success of the company as they have.
Magnus Group provides a high standard of customer care with their haulage, warehousing, storage and freight forwarding services. To ensure they are known as the supplier of choice to companies requiring excellence, Olly has expanded the services on offer. The warehouse operation has been increased to 225,000 square feet with 20,000 racked spaces. The fleet has been increased to over 50 lorries. The rebrand has created a strong identity, recognisable both on the road and on-line.
Magnus Group is based in Great Blakenham, just outside Ipswich, ideally placed to serve the Port of Felixstowe with direct road links to the Midlands, the North and London.
