Going wild with The Big Hoot

2nd February, 2022

We have had a few special visitors in our warehouse over the past month or so. It’s all been top secret although we can now start to share a few photos and more details.

If you are local to Magnus in Suffolk or Ipswich, you may recall previous years’ trails. The town was filled with bright coloured pigs and decorated elephants.

Wild in Art trails

Wild in Art leads on global events to engage the community through the use of art. This year they will be working with charities and businesses to raise money, increase community awareness and bring some fun through the creation of street art in the form of dogs, ducks, whales, elephants and many more.  For Ipswich, the art trail will be owls: with 40 brightly decorated structures of Big Hoots, brightening up the streets and parks of the town for the summer months.

Supporting the local community

Magnus Group Ltd is proud to be one of the logistics partners of this year’s art trail in Ipswich. St Elizabeth Hospice is managing the trail and is a charity close to many of us, improving life for people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses in Suffolk.

Our role as Logistics Partner

As a logistics partner, we will be undertaking various tasks to support the charity and art trail. Our warehouse has been home to 40 Big Hoots and 80 Little Hoots over the past few months. We have helped to deliver the Little Hoots to various schools. The hospice has had access to collect and deliver The Big Hoots to the artists who have been chosen to decorate the owl for their sponsor. Over the next few months, our role will include receiving the Hoots, big and small, back into the warehouse. We will prepare them for the trail, and install them ready for the trail launch in June.

Little Hoots

Steve Holden Facilities Manager with Dave Flewitt General Manager of Warehouse Operations, took the Magnus van out last week to deliver some Little Hoots to local primary schools ready for decorating by the children.

Our very own Big Hoot

Not only are we one of the logistics partners, but we also have the honour of being a sponsor.  Sue Guthrie, our artist, has now received our ready for decorating. Sue is no stranger to Wild in Art trails, having been involved in several before, including the Elmer Trail in Ipswich.

We are all very excited to see how the design takes shape and will share updates on our social media.

The Big Hoot trail

The trail goes live on 19 June 2022. The last trail, Elmer, saw over 390,000 visitors and raised over £260,000 for the hospice. It is very exciting to be involved in a community art event which will raise the profile of our home town whilst supporting a fantastic charity.
