Freight Forwarding – Changes 2022

15th March, 2022

The past twelve months have seen a gradual change in processes and procedures for imports/exports. 31 January 2022 marked the end of the withdrawal from the EU as a result of Brexit. The final changes will be introduced in 2022.

The Magnus Group freight forwarding team based in the Port of Felixstowe has been supporting clients with the changes over the past year.  Our team are experts to support and advise our clients. We issue a regular newsletter keeps our clients up to date with changes in customs controls and helps to minimise any impact. Global trade is forever changing, in response to political, economic, environmental, and social influences. As an international freight distribution company, we can help to navigate and manage the systems.

Changes from 1 July 2022

The first change is that certification and physical checks will be introduced for the following products:

  • Regulated plants and plant products
  • Meats and meat-related products
  • High-risk foods (non-animal)
  • Regulated animal by-products

Changes from 1 September 2022

Dairy products will have physical checks and certification.

Changes from 1 November 2022

All remaining animal products (including fish and composite products) will have physical checks and certification.

Further changes

– transition to Plant Health Export Service

You will be moved to the PHES and IPAFFS (Plant Health Export Service and Import of Products, Animals, Food and Feed System) if you are using PEACH and eDomero.

– changes to VAT

It is now permitted to use postponed VAT accounting, if VAT registered.

Why use a freight forwarder?

You can benefit from using a Freight Forwarder if you have goods that are being transported across the world as part of your business,

A freight forwarder understands the rules and regulations for each country. They are fully briefed and up to date with the latest law changes and regulations. They have strong communication channels with HMRC.

What that all means, in simple terms, is that as experts they can help you move goods between countries legally, efficiently and cost-effectively.
